Living in Teague, a Railroad Town in Freestone County
Teague grew up around the railroad. When the Trinity and Brazos Valley Railway was built through the county in 1906, it put its machine and car shops here, and the town quickly became a shipping center for area cotton farmers. That story is kept at the Burlington-Rock Island Railroad Museum, housed in the original depot and office building, the only building in Freestone County on the National Register of Historic Places. Exhibits include a 1925 Baldwin locomotive, and the Boll Weevil line still brings freight service to Teague.
Teague City Lake, at 180 County Road 888, is open to the public with a lighted fishing pier, benches and a boat ramp. Along with US 84 and SH 179, FM 80 and FM 145 also meet in town. The city utility billing page has the Utility Connection Application and service agreement, and the finance office is at City Hall, 105 South 4th Avenue. The city also runs the Teague Public Library, and the Teague Chronicle has covered local news since 1906.
