Moving In and Around Eureka

Eureka is in southeastern Navarro County, at the junction of U.S. Highway 287 and Farm Roads 637 and 3243, eleven miles southeast of Corsicana. Residents picked the name at a Grange meeting in 1870. If your Eureka home sits off FM 637 or FM 3243 rather than US-287, mention the access when you request your quote so we can send a truck and crew that fit. For moves to or from the county seat, see our Corsicana movers.

Eureka History and New-Resident Basics

Eureka grew up around a log schoolhouse called Dunn’s School just before the Civil War. In 1870 a post office opened in the home of P. Anderson, and by 1885 the town had steam gristmills, cotton gins, two churches and a district school. After World War II the Eureka school was consolidated with Mildred’s, and today Mildred ISD serves Mildred, Eureka and Navarro.

The City of Eureka keeps a New Resident Resources page with electric, water, school and county contacts. It lists Navarro County Electric Cooperative and TXU Energy for electric service, and water is through M.E.N. WSC. City Hall is at 400 SE County Road 2190, and the town is served by an all-volunteer fire department. For lake days, the Cheneyboro boat ramp on Richland-Chambers is reached by taking FM 3243 southwest from Eureka toward Navarro.
