Mabank started in 1900, when the Southern Pacific Railroad bypassed the older town of Lawndale and the owners of the Mason-Eubank Ranch platted a new site on February 23 of that year. It was incorporated in 1911, and once Cedar Creek Lake was completed it drew a lot of new residents. The city sits near where FM 90, FM 198 and US 175 meet.

Downtown Mabank runs along Market Street: City Hall and the Water Department are at 129 E Market Street, Mabank ISD’s offices are at 310 E. Mabank ISD runs Central, Southside and Lakeview elementary schools, an intermediate school, a junior high and Mabank High School. The Mabank Veterans Memorial Garden sits next to the Mabank Pavilion on S. Easley Parkway.
